It is highly recommended that you obtain accurate weather
information before scheduling your visit to Alton Towers. The majority of rides
are outdoor, however there are a variety of indoor attractions to escape to. It is the most popular theme park in the United Kingdom, but if you are planning an impromptu visit then do have a look at the current weather conditions at Alton Towers before booking your tickets.
Like the rest of the UK, Alton Towers is susceptible to
changeable seasons. Generally the best time to visit the theme park is April to
September, when temperatures range from 8°C-17°C (on average). These months record
the lowest rainfall, however other months of the year may still present perfect
weather conditions for visiting the theme park. The annual rainfall throughout
the year is approximately 785 millimeters.
The winter months at Alton Towers tend to be frosty, with
the average temperature of 4°C and lows of about 0°C.
Rainfall has been recorded at around 55 mm and you can expect to see rain or
drizzle falling on 9 days of the month. In general, there is about 3 hours of
sunshine per day, about 8 days of fog per month and the possibility of 7 days
out of the month presenting snow.
The summer months at Alton Towers
are mildly warm. Average temperatures range from 11°C to 20°C, making it a
great time of the year to visit. Rainfall has been recorded between 30 and 90
millimeters, with the average rain or drizzle falling on 8 days of the month.
Sunshine throughout these months range between 5-9 hours per day, with a slim

Alton Towers
Information
Alton Towers is a holiday resort located in the village of
Alton in Staffordshire. The resort includes the theme park, as well as the
Alton Towers Hotel, Splash Landings Hotel, Waterpark, Spa, Extraordinary
Golf and Conference Centre.
Alton Towers theme park is fun for the whole family and
perfect for a short break. It is open between the 16th March and 10th November-
that's 225 potential days to visit the thrilling attractions the theme park has
to offer. To gain access to the park from the Alton Towers Hotel, follow the
Woodland Walk (approximately 15 minutes walk), open from 10am to 12noon; or use
the monorail next to the Splash Landings Hotel, open from 8:30am. Dependent on
the time of the year, the park closes at 5:00pm, however check the website and
notice boards for further details, closer to the time of your visit.
Alton Towers Rides
The park is divided into thirteen areas with subsequent
rides: Towers Street, Mutiny Bay,
Katanga Canyon, Gloomy Wood, Forbidden Valley, Dark Forest, Cloud Cuckoo Land,
X-Sector, Adventure Land, Storybook Land, Old MacDonald´s Farm, The Towers and The Gardens.
For navigation purposes the Skyride is a cable car system involving gondolas, which
visitors can use to travel between Towers Street, Forbidden Valley and Cloud
Cuckoo Land. In addition, the Monorail
transports guests
from the two on-site hotels and water park to the theme park.
Alton Towers most popular rides include Nemesis, Oblivion, Air, Rita and Th13teen, and The Smiler.
Mutiny bay

bay is a pirate themed land. Rides include:
Battle Galleons – Splash battle
Marauder's Mayhem – Spinning barrels ride
Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE – Walkthrough aquarium that
allows you to actually touch the sea life!
The Flume Unplugged – Log flume ride. It was once
the longest flume ride in the world.
Gloomy Wood
The Gloomy Wood is a
small, haunted house themed area. Rides include:
Duel: The Haunted House Strikes Back! – Dark ride laser shoot out.
Haunted Hollow – Spooky walkthrough in the
Towers Garden.
Forbidden
Valley
Forbidden
Valley is themed around a frightening post-apocalyptic landscape,
with waterfalls coloured red to look like blood. Rides include:
Nemesis: An inverted steel roller coaster, which is regarded as one
of the best designed roller coasters in the world. Must be experienced to be
appreciated.
Ripsaw
The Blade
Air
Dark Forest
Dark Forest is themed as a supernatural area of woodland that
has been disturbed by recent excavation of an ancient burial ground. Rides here include:
Thirteen: Themed as a haunted crypt and features
the world's first freefall drop on a rollercoaster.
Cloud Cuckoo Land
Cloud Cuckoo Land is aimed at the younger audience
of Alton Towers, and is themed as a fantasy garden. Rides inlcude:
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Ride –11-minute journey based on
Roald Dahl´s book.
Driving School – Electric cars for kids to
drive.
Wobble World – Indoor play area.
X Sector: X
Sector is themed like a futuristic Government facility. Rides Include:
Oblivion – Steel sit down dive coaster
that reaches a speed of 68 mph, sit tight! A personal favourite.
Submission – Giant swing.
The Smiler – A steel infinity coaster with 14
inversions, the most in the world!
Old MacDonald's Farmyard
Old
Macdonald’s Farmyard is themed around a traditional farm, this area includes a
small petting zoo and a few rides for children.
Alton Towers Waterpark
The
Alton Towers Waterpark is a both indoor and outdoor Waterpark themed as a
tropical lagoon. It is located within The
Splash Landings Hotel and is available for both hotel guests and to
the public.
