LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA CLIMATE AND RESORT OVERVIEW

LAS PALMAS TOURIST INFO

Year round sunshine and beautiful architecture are just some of the things you can expect on a holiday to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Founded in 1478, Las Palmas (as it is sometimes known) is one of the largest cities in Spain and the largest in Gran Canaria.

Located in the northeast of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas offers the perfect combination of sun, sea and sand in a vibrant, upbeat city.

Situated 11 miles from Gran Canaria Airport you don’t have to venture far in order to find a good time.

With resorts such as Maspalomas and Puerto Rico located nearby, there is plenty to see and do. Have a look at the current weather in Las Palmas, or check out these animated weather charts for Las Palmas which include temperature, wind, rain/snow, cloud and upper air temperature.

SUMMER IN LAS PALMAS

It may be the largest and busiest city in all of Gran Canaria but that doesn’t mean that beaches are unheard of. In fact, the city boasts a number of beaches all of which provide splendid conditions to sit back, relax and sunbathe in average 26 degree Celsius summer heat. One of these beaches is Las Canteras which apart from being one of the most popular beaches in the area, it is also the biggest. This 3km stretch of golden sand dusted shoreline is also regarded as one of the best beaches in all of Spain. Furthermore, with an average sea temperature being forecasted at 21 degrees Celsius you can enjoy some water sport activities such as diving and surfing which is a very popular past time on Las Canteras Beach. However, as the temperatures increase during the season prolonged activity in the sun could cause fatigue so do take regular breaks to ensure that you can fully enjoy the water activities without fear of tiring yourself out or getting sunstroke.

When the sun goes down Las Palmas vibrant nature comes out of the shadows. Parque Santa Catalina sees families descend to see the street artist and musicians line the streets and entertain the crowds with their talent. Furthermore, with an average of 11 hours of sunshine being estimated for the season, you can easily have a good time before and after the sun goes down.

However with an average wind speed of 22 mph visitors should be carefully as although it may feel cooler, the sun can still burn your skin so be sure to protect it by applying sunscreen.

AUTUMN IN LAS PALMAS

During the autumn months temperatures do stay high with Las Palmas experiencing average maximum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius being forecast. With this in mind, going to beaches such as Playa de las Alcaravaneras where beautiful views and sea temperatures of 23 degrees Celsius are there to greet you upon your arrival is still worth your time.

If, however, all that holiday spending money is burning a hole in your pocket then fear not as Las Palmas will make sure that is no longer the case. The phrase “shop till you drop” here is more of a way of life rather than a saying. Triana is full of small stylish boutiques where you will be able to find the perfect presents for friends or for yourself. However, prolonged activity in this heat may cause fatigue so be sure to stop at one of many cafes for a drink or two and watch the world go by. Furthermore, wind speeds in this section of the globe still remain fairly high with an average wind speed of 13mph being forecast so make sure to put on the sun cream if you don’t want to be left red faced.
