SIDE TOURIST INFO
Side, pronounced “see-day”, is one of the most well known ancient towns in Turkey and when you begin to delve into its history it becomes obvious why this is the case.
Located on the south coast of Turkey, in the Antalya Province this historic hub provides everything needed to have a perfect, relaxing holiday. From shops, to beaches and everything inbetween Side has retained its old charm whilst still keeping up with the newer resorts.
Situated 54 km from Antalya Airport you can easily reach this picturesque town and begin your holiday right away without having to engage in a great deal of unnecessary travelling upon touching down.
If you want to venture out of Side and experience something a little livelier then resorts such as Lara Beach, Manavgat, Alanya and the city of Antalya are located nearby so you’re only a stone’s throw away from the tourist and cultural centers.
With other historic visitors of this town including Anthony and Cleopatra you are definitely in good company. So if you fancy walking in those famous, historic footsteps then Side might just make you day.
SUMMER IN SIDE
There may only be two main beaches in Side but that doesn’t mean they are not spectacular because these certainly exemplify quality over quantity. The appropriately named East and West Beach are a haven for those who want to sit back and relax and for those who fancy a bit of water sport action. Activities such as parasailing, water skiing and surfing are available which will activate your inner adrenaline junkie. There is no need to worry about falling into a cold ocean as sea temperatures can reach up to 28 degrees Celsius during this time so if you do fall in you probably won’t want to get out for a while. West Beach is perfect for families with its shallow waters which are ideal for young children who wish to bathe and play in the sea.
AUTUMN IN SIDE
During the autumn months the temperatures remain similar to those during summer, with an average maximum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. So you can still go on a beach holiday without the fear of having to bring a jumper with you, which could be slightly awkward.
Sea temperatures also remain high but do dip to 21 degrees Celsius towards the end of the autumn months so you can still take part in some water activities but be sure you are prepared for a slight shock if you fall in.
However, as any true adrenaline junkie knows a wee splash of cold water never does any harm and Koprulu Canyon you will get more than a splash. This spot is a favourite amongst white water rafters due to its easy rapids. Located within the Koprulu Canyon Park, this is the longest canyon in all of Turkey. Providing both stunning scenery and wild adventure this is one experience you will not forget in hurry.
WINTER IN SIDE
Winter is the wettest time of year in Side with an average rainfall of 190mm. However, this should not stop you enjoying all this resort has to offer.
Turkey has become increasing popular for its skiing facilities and with Turkish ski resorts such as Sakilikent Ski Resort located here this popularity will only grow. Only a couple of hours drive from Side this ski resort not only provided terrific terrain to push you to your limits but also luxury accommodation as well as restaurants. Although there is a reduced service during the winter months, it is still a good time to go because you will manage to escape the summer crowds meaning that you can enjoy a quiet relaxing holiday.
If you would much rather stay in Side then there is still lots to see and do, despite it being a quieter time of year. With the weather being forecast at a cool 16 degrees Celsius for the winter season and dipping to 6 degrees Celsius you might want to find somewhere a little warmer to pass the time. SPRING IN SIDE
Something truly magical exists in this part of the world. The historic ruins are what make people venture far and wide to Side because it is like completely immersing yourself in something fantastical and otherworldly.
One of the most spell-binding sites is the Temple of Apollo and Athena. Steeped in history and culture this site has been attracting tourists for many centuries. It is also said to be the meeting place of Anthony and Cleopatra where they would have secret rendezvous.
With average temperatures reaching a very comfortable 26 degrees Celsius in Spring you can roam around and enjoy the sites without worrying about hiding behind a ruin to escape the searing heat.
However, you may experience some rain with an average rainfall of 74mm for the season so you may want to bring an umbrella, just to be on the safe side.
