Nestled on the Island of Corfu, off the western coasts of Albania and Greece, Corfu town may be small but that doesn’t mean that it won’t make a big impact on the average holidaymaker.
Situated 2km from the Corfu Airport, the town is split into two parts, the new and the old. The new town provides the shops, bars, and amenities that a tourist requires, whilst the old town is immersed in history and culture and is full to the brim of things to see and do.
With resorts such as Analipsi, Kerkyra and Siadari located nearby, you will not be short of things to do even if you do decide to venture a little further afield from Corfu Town.
SUMMER IN CORFU
With temperatures reaching an average maximum of 31 degrees Celsius you may want to take full advantage and get the glowing summer tan. If this sounds like your idea of holiday heaven then you are in luck as Corfu town boasts its own beautiful beach. They say good things come in small packages and this saying couldn’t be truer in terms of Mon Repos Beach. This small sandy beach is ideal if you wish to escape from the hustle and bustle of the old town during the summer season. Furthermore, with an average sea temperature of 25 degrees Celsius it may provide some welcome relief from the heat for a few hours.
There are other beaches located nearby which will make any beach worshipper say Hallelujah. Galfada is one of the most popular beaches on the island and is located 16km west of Corfu Town and is easily accessible by bus. Here it’s not only the cooling water which can be enjoyed but also the view. With majestic cliffs which are coated in luscious green trees and rocks which delve into the blue waters it will certainly make for an enviable holiday photo album.
AUTUMN IN CORFU
You don’t have to venture far to soak up a little culture in these parts and Corfu Town has it in bucket loads. The Esplanade is a wide opened space which is full of small cafes where you sit and have a good old gossip and watch the world go by. Furthermore with an average rainfall of 118mm it may provide the ideal escape if the heavens decide to open. To the northern end of The Esplanade is The Liston which is an arcaded building built in a Parisian style. Further along, there is a large green space which is sometimes used for cricket matches and with an average maximum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius being forecast for the season, heat comfort index levels suggest that prolonged activity in the heat should not cause any discomfort towards the latter part of the season.
WINTER IN CORFU
As winters in this part of the world are a complete contrast to the weather experienced in the summer months which an average maximum temperature of 14 degrees Celsius. Therefore, getting out of the chilly weather may be a good idea. With this said, that doesn’t mean that you still can’t have a good time.
Corfu town plays host to many museums which are sure to get those cultural taste buds going. The Museum of Asian Art was founded in 1927 and boasts a wide range of collections from China, Japan and India. As this is the wettest season of the year with an average rainfall of 134mm, it may provide the ideal opportunity to hide from the rain. However, if you don’t mind getting a little bit wet then the museums facade is equally as impressive interior. The building is a classic example of British architecture at its finest and is definitely worth exploring.
SPRING IN CORFU
Corfu town is full of little gems which are just waiting to be discovered. In these parts, walking and hikingare popular past times and once you see the facilities it offers, you will not be surprised to see why. The Corfu Trail runs the length of Corfu and is 222km. Designed for more experience walkers and trekkers the trail takes you through beautiful small villages, the idyllic countryside and stunning beaches. You will also get to go to Mount Pantakrator where you will be greeted by stunning views. With an average wind speed of 5pmh the only thing that will blow you away is the view. The walk takes 12 days to complete but if this sounds like a little too much then there is the option to do smaller excursions which may be more suitable for those with less hiking experience.
